STALLIONS FOR 2010: THE ONES TO WATCH...page 2

Denario (Denaro x Fair Play) is another stallion with fabulous quality semen and a very inexpensive price tag, who should not be overlooked. Two times Bundeschampion, he has a remarkably trainable temperament which he passes onto his foals. Thomas Casper, his owner, has said that “even I can ride him, a statement not to be dismissed as my true forte lies in carriage driving!” Those breeding for decent amateur riders should have a very good look at him, as he seems to work on most mares producing long lined, pretty foals, with very workable temperaments.

Furstenball (Furst Heinrich x Donnerhall) is another 70 day test winner, with an incredible 154.99 points. Being a Furst Heinrich aficionado, I simply can't find anything bad to say about this horse, who looks as though he would work on any mare. The dam line is a first class line up of Elite St Premium mares, the dressage index is 151, and in my opinion, this stallion will overtake Schockemöhle’s other stallions in terms of popularity this year.

And last but very much not least, Zack (Rousseau x Jazz). Again, I am a massive fan of Rousseau as a producer of correctly moving horses. Clearly I am not alone in this, as most of the German breeders I have talked to have a mare in foal to Zack. Long lined, blood type and leggy, but with a critically important ability to sit, this stallion would seem the answer to everyone's prayers. My understanding from the stud is that he will be considered for the Hannoverian studbook this year, although will not be doing the KWPN performance test - he is simply too busy!

Coming away from the stallion shows in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the shows from Boeckmann and Schockemöhle’s, I was left with the very distinct impression that at last the Germans are using the Dutch stallions and vice versa. In the UK we are in the fabulous position of being able to do this to great effect, so would advise everyone to look and choose carefully, but to ignore the studbook tag if you can, and aim for the best possible results.

Good luck with your 2010 foals and stallion selections.
